Reiki has been shown to decrease anxiety, diminish pain, strengthen the immune system, and accelerate healing. Reiki is hands-on, administered through a soft touch rather than a deep pressure such as massage. It can also be administered by placing the hands above the client without actually touching the client. While the client is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the practitioner's hands are placed along energy centers on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, legs, and feet. The client may experience a range of feelings such as warmth, coolness, tingling, or may simply become very relaxed. Because Reiki is not centered in any religion or practice, the client does not need to believe in the process to experience benefits.
