I worked in acute care as an ICU RN before advancing my career as a nurse practitioner in primary care, she says. Becoming a nurse practitioner allowed me to combine the clinical experience I had gained with greater autonomy in diagnosing, treating and managing patients' health. Primary care helps build long term relationships with patients, focus on prevention, help manage chronic conditions and treat non urgent acute cases.
