I never thought I would actually finish this book. Life kept getting in the way, and I had convinced myself my writing was not good enough to share. I came here to talk with honesty because I made a lot of messy things in my manuscript and I knew it but I didn't quite know how to untangle them without losing the soul of the story, and the first person I spoke with at the agency didn't try to dazzle me with fancy sales talk but instead asked me what was keeping me up at night about my own writing which threw me off guard because nobody had ever asked me that before. The proofreading part was straightforward enough but what really got me was how they handled those final two chapters because I had completely painted myself into a corner with the plot and my writer didn't just take over and write them in his own style, he sent me long rambling emails asking about my grandmother and what I wanted the reader to remember after closing the book, and then he delivered something that sounded so much like me that I actually got teary eyed sitting at my kitchen table reading it back. The Amazon KDP upload process gave me actual headaches and there was one stretch where my project manager went quiet for two days which made me nervous but her colleague jumped in and fixed a formatting disaster with the table of contents before I even knew it was broken, so I cannot say everything was flawless but I can say they treated my story like it mattered to them just as much as it mattered to me and that is a rare thing to find these days.
