Mountain Crest Dairy was formed by the Rich family. Yes the same family known for the Twisted R Ranch. It was started years ago with a phone call to Miss Abigail Rich who was the manager at the Twisted R Ranch. Mountain Crest Dairy was formed by the Rich family. Yes the same family known for the Twisted R Ranch. It was started years ago with a phone call to Miss Abigail Rich who was the manager at the Twisted R Ranch. Abigail was known for her love of cows since the early age of 3 and soon joined by her brothers Michael, Brian and their Mom Sophia. The phone call was from an employee at a Dairy in East Texas who had heard of Abigail and her brother's loving care for their cattle. The dairy employee told Abigail that the Dairyman had lost his contracts with the Independent school district for supplying milk and was cutting costs by killing all his 1-10 day old calves. Abigail alerted her brothers and mom and the Rich family jumped into their trucks with trailers in tow and went to the dairy to save every baby cow that they could. They bought all of the remaining calves. When they opened their trailer doors every little calf ran to the trailers and jumped in with the exception of “Buttermilk” who was so small she could not get into the trailer on her own so, she was lifted in by Abigail. All the babies were taken back to the Twisted R-Texas and were provided love, care and much needed medical attention and nice warm bottles so that they would grow up big and strong. Not long after that the news broke internationally about the horrific abuse that a Dairy farm in Indiana was doing to its cows and that it was common in the Dairy industry as a whole. Even in Canada a well known dairy spokesperson said that they use their cows for milk then by the time they are 4-5 years of age they are “Destroyed” . Brian and Michael said that there has to be a better way and the 4 of them all sat down and decided to show the world that there IS A BETTER way to run a dairy. That folks is the beginning of Mountain Crest Dairy. At Mountain Crest Dairy our cows work and live in clean, comfortable, environmentally controlled barns, with love and compassion at all times. When it it time for them to retire they get to live at the Twisted R Ranch-Montana enjoying sweet green grass, clean environmentally controlled barns, getting loved and pampered for the rest of their natural lives, NONE of our cows are ever “destroyed” or sold.
