Opened in 1952, in the Irish Channel neighborhood, Parasol's Bar and Restaurant is a New Orleans tradition. The name comes from the founder, Louis Passauer. He was concerned people would not be able to pronounce his last name, so he chose Parasol's instead. Over the years, Parasol's thrived and became a hub of politcal and social activity. The specialty of the house is, and was, the roast beef po boy. This New Orleans staple features tender roast beef drenched in brown gravy and served with fresh cut lettuce, tomato, pickle and mayo on fresh Leidenheimer french bread. Known throughout New Orleans, as well as the rest of the world, Parasol's has become the neighborhood place for locals and vistors alike. On St. Patricks Day, the bar holds a legendary block party celebrating the Irish.
