Rather than looking at a piece of pottery that has been broken as flawed or imperfect, these artists join the pieces together with a lacquer that has been mixed with a precious metal - like silver or gold - to highlight the breakage. You see, rather than disguising the past of the piece, these craftspeople view the breakage as an important part of the piece’s history. They see it as adding value, character and beauty.
