Jaime Carrizosa, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.I.D.S.A. (Emeritus), has twice been named by Orlando Magazine as Best Doctor for Infectious Diseases, most recently in 2006. He received his medical degree from the National University of Colombia, and trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. Dr. Carrizosa is certified in Wound Care and also practices Hyperbaric Medicine.

Carlos J. Ruiz, M.D., F.A.C.P. was the first infectious disease specialist in Orlando in 1973, and he is also the founding physician of IDC.Dr. Ruiz received his medical degree from the National University of Colombia. After completing his Internal Medicine Residency in Cleveland, OH, he did his Infectious Disease Fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. Dr. Ruiz is also certified in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and has served as Florida Hospital Orlando Medical Staff President.

Ramona Kyrillos, M.D., joined IDC in July 2020 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. She earned her medical degree from the Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon, completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Miami in 2013. Before joining IDC, Dr. Kyrillos served at AdventHealth Waterman as Chair of Infection Control, Chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees, and Director of the Infusion Center.

Damyr Aponte-Diaz, M.D., from Caguas, Puerto Rico, joined IDC in October 2022. She earned her medical degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in the Dominican Republic and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at San Juan City Hospital, where she was Chief Medical Resident. Dr. Aponte went on to complete her Infectious Disease Fellowship at the University of Puerto Rico in 2020, serving as Chief Fellow in her final year. Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, she previously worked at VA Caribbean Healthcare, serving veterans in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Timothy W. Cooper, M.D., F.A.C.P. (Ret) was born, raised and graduated high school in Lake Wales, Polk County, FL. In 1973, he received a Congressional Appointment to Air Force Academy from which he graduated in 1973. He received his medical degree from F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed University of the Health Sciences (military medical school) in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Cooper retired from the US Air Force with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1997 and joined Infectious Disease Consultants in Altamonte Springs. He is currently a partner with Infectious Disease Consultants and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health.

Javier Marinez, M.D., joined IDC in 2011 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in Miami, FL, completed his Internal Medicine training at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and his Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of South Florida. Before moving to Florida, Dr. Marinez served as Active Staff at Gila Regional Medical Center in New Mexico.

Fernando Alvarado, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P. joined IDC in 2000. He received his medical degree from the Colombian School of Medicine in 1989, later trained in Internal Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and earned his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 1997. Dr. Alvarado is a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. He has extensive field experience in tropical diseases and malaria in Colombia and attended the Diploma Course of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany in 1992. Dr. Alvarado is credentialed as an HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He is also Board Certified in Hyperbaric Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He treats patients requesting Travel Health Services at IDC, offering vaccinations and counseling as well as immigration physicals. Dr.

Anibal Maldonado, M.D., joined Infectious Diseases Consultants in 2007 and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He earned his B.S. in Biology from Bradley University and his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, completing his Internship, Residency, and Fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the University of South Florida. Dr. Maldonado has specialized training in Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care and serves as Affiliate Professor at the University of Central Florida.

Alexander Velazquez, M.D. joined IDC in 2011. He received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, Portsmouth Campus, Roseau, Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies; trained for Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Orlando Regional Healthcare, Orlando, FL. Dr. Velazquez is Board Certified in Infectious Diseases. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America and the Florida Infectious Disease Society.
