Back then, Jim worked for Ralph Buckner, Sr. as part of the Buckner Funeral Home. Mr. Buckner sold the business to a Houston, Texas conglomerate in 1973, and Jim stayed on until 1977 when he and Ralph Buckner, Jr. bought the funeral homes back.
