First, I am not writing this in the heat of the moment. In October of 2019, we hired Paradise Allscapes to build a double retaining wall in our front yard and a border wall around our upper flower beds. It is now May of 2020. The cuts on the caps of the wall look horrible. We asked about this and we were told "this is just the way it is done". The upper flower bed border is completely not level and uneven. We were told that the brick was following the "contour of the sidewalk". We understood this to mean that the height of the brick should be consistent; however, the brick height varies from 7 1/4 to 8 1/2 inches. The space between the two walls was to be filled with soil for a flower bed. The contract specifically stated that they would "furnish all of the materials and perform all of the work"; however, we were informed that there was an additional charge of $600 for additional dirt needed to fill in between the walls and it was still not enough. The soil level is still too low. We were under the impression that the brick to be used was as shown in the picture that was provided to us. When the check was picked up for the down payment, he took only that one picture back stating that you didn't want to confuse it with the other pictures. After we made the down payment, he informed us that this brick was not an option. To choose a brick similar to our expectation, the cost was $2,400 in addition to the original estimate. The highest part of the yard is all grass. Once again, it is not properly filled with soil. On one side, the soil level is about 8 inches below the block and about 3 inches on the other side. Then comes the horrible sod laying. It is so uneven and bumpy. Mowing this is ridiculous. We were asked many times for more money along the way outside of the agreement. We always paid more than our agreed payments. The final payment was to be made when all of the work was complete to our satisfaction. However, on a verbal agreement, we agreed to make most of the final payment (minus the cost of the upper beds) and they would come back to fix the upper flower beds within the next week. He said to us that he wants us to be happy. We should have never made final payment to them, because their verbal agreement means nothing!!! I say that means nothing because we have never heard from them again. Clearly, he does not care if we were happy or not. He just wanted his money. Now it is spring and we are getting quotes to have the front yard fixed. The quotes on fixing the wall/caps are not with it. We will just have to deal with the way the look. However, we will be fixing the soil level, grading issues and sod. I am very upset that we have to pay again to have the work done again that he should have done right the first time.
