The Maine Strong Balance Center is an outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic dedicated to balance. We are located in Scarborough, Maine. Our specialty is preventing falls with the mission of improving the quality of life for our at-risk community members. We are a one-of-a-kind clinic in Maine and have developed a unique and comprehensive approach to evaluating and treating balance. This approach involves over a dozen testing stations where a thorough evaluation of every bodily system that contributes to someone’s fall risk is analyzed. A couple examples include: a video analysis of gait (research shows gait deviations increase your chances of falling by 2.9 times), sensation testing station (impaired sensation increases fall risk by 3.0 times) as well as a more traditional strength testing (research shows weakness increases your chances of falling by 4.4 times). From this Balance Profile, we then calculate a Balance Score that is predictive of the patient’s fall risk. We then address every contributing system in the form of evidenced based physical therapy treatments to minimize the overall fall risk.
