1/22/2020 We contracted with LA Landscapes to install a paver patio. Installation was great and the patio was beautiful. For that process we scheduled for Lee to meet with us at our house to talk design, cost and time frame for completion. He came out, we talked, he provided us a quote, we agreed and returned the sign quote. We paid the first installment and work began. The patio was completed and we paid the remaining installment. We attempted to contact LA Landscapes the following Spring to see if they had time to seal the patio prior to the installation of our landscaping (plants, shrubs and mulch), and prior to our daughter's graduation open house party, which we hosted in our backyard. We contacted them a few times but did not receive a return call. In the meantime, our plants and other landscape was installed by another company. One afternoon in June one of our children contacted me at work asking if we were expecting someone at the house that day. She said someone was on the patio and appeared to be spraying something. I had not scheduled anyone to work on the patio and neither had my husband. I knew he previously attempted to reach LA Landscapes to seal the patio but had not heard back. I called LA Landscapes to see if for some reason they sent someone to our house. The woman who answered the phone said she had to call Lee to find out but would call me back. I received a return call approximately 15-minutes later advising it was one of their employees. I relayed my displeasure because we didn't schedule it and it scared our children. After the work was done, we noted several items of poor workmanship including, but not limited to, over spray of sealant all over the paint and glass of our patio doors. The paint on the doors is dark in color, the overspray is white and would not come off. We also suspect that he didn't tarp our newly installed plants that surround the patio because shortly after the patio was sealed, those plants started to die. We then received a bill from LA Landscapes for $1,120.00. We contacted Lee to discuss our displeasure of the bill, that we had not permitted or contracted for the work, had not approved the cost or even received a call back to confirm and schedule the work. We also noted to him, with photos, the items of poor workmanship and over spray on our doors and dying plants. Approximately 10 days passed with no word from Lee or anyone else at LA Landscapes. We contacted Lee again to follow up. Lee told us that 10-days prior (unbeknown to us) they "fixed" several of our items of concern. So again, they came to our house and performed work without our prior knowledge or approval. They did not fix the patio doors that were over sprayed or offer to replace the dead plants. As a compromise, we obtained a quote to fix the doors, sent it to Lee and asked that he reduce his bill by the amount it was going to cost us to have our patio doors repainted. Lee refused, said our quote was unreasonable and insisted that we requested the work and that the cost "had always been $2.00 per square foot". He was referring to the original contract for the installation of the patio. We replied with a copy of the original signed quote attached and asked him to point out where in that quote he included a quote for the cost to seal the patio. He replied, but only to accuse us of not wanting to pay and said he would have to take another route. We replied explaining we want to pay but do not feel we should pay him the full amount of the invoice when they caused damage to our doors. No response from Lee. Instead, 4 months later, we received a collection notice on his behalf from a collection agency. We paid LA Landscapes $17,000, on time and without issue, for the quoted and agreed upon cost for the installation of our patio. In return we received horrible customer service, damaged doors, dead plants and a collection notice for work performed without our permission. Calling and leaving a message asking if he'd be able to do the work within the time frame needed and requesting a call back is NOT authorization. Despite not scheduling or authorizing the work and then sustaining damage to our doors and plants, we were still willing to pay a portion of his invoice, less the cost to repair our doors. Lee refused to work with us and chose to lose a continued client and referral source over approximately $400-$700
