The Owner hired paid this Contractor a premium price to close in a closet and install closet doors to match the closet and doors in an adjacent room, which room was shown to the Contractor as specific sample to follow. Instead of matching the quality of the doors and track in the other room, the Contractor installed inferior wood and track, telling the Owner, after installation, he couldn't locate anything other than what he installed. But contrary to this, the doors matching the other ones in the house were readily available from a local supplier. This left the Owner having to remove the Contractors doors and replace them at the Owners expense to match the quality and pattern of the other doors in the house. The Contractor's argument to the Owner was that it didn't matter as to the quality of the doors, since a Buyer would probably re-do the house over anyway. The Contractor had no right change the quality of the expected work without the Owners permission. He also had no right to charge for quality he didn't provide. This Contractor also hung a door in an existing opening. Even though a premium price was paid for this also, the door is improperly hung, as it is too tight for the jam, improperly planed on the hinge side and hinge bound. This was a very bad and expensive experience. This is an upscale house and his material and workmanship has degraded it to an unacceptable level. After paying a premium for the work, his comments for the shortcoming, that a buyer is going to re-decorate anyway really stings.
