The local Habitat organization has been helping families into safe, affordable homes since 1988. All funds are raised locally and many volunteers contribute time and talents to help build more than 75 homes along the Crystal Coast. This is not a "give-away" program, but the families selected meet certain income criteria and partner with Habitat to build their home. The have a steady source of income, earn "sweat equity" hours on their home and other Habitat projects and complete homeowner education. The local Habitat ReStore operations in Newport and Jacksonville sell new and gently used donated furniture, appliances and building materials to the public. This Re-use and Recycling also helps eliminate waste going to our landfills, and helps build homes for more families in need.
