Beware that this guy has operated under different trade names, Gary Sweitzer Inc. Excellent Contracting and Gary Sweitzer Services. A company with a good reputation does not need to change its name. As of February 9 2026 up to this date this business does not have an active Maryland Home Improvement Commission license, be sure to call MHIC for the license status. As for myself, I spent two years trying to get this guy to finish a basement to which I had to get MHIC involved. MHIC set up a mediation to where we agreed he would complete the job within 45 calendar days and we would pay an additional fee not only did he fail to complete the job he never showed up in the agreed upon time frame. Other problems we encountered. 1. He had a problem keeping subcontractors because of unpaid invoices. I've received emails and text messages from two different contractors to verify this claim. 2. He didn't apply for a permit until 13 months after he collected a down payment from us. This has been verified with our county permitting office. 3. His insurance expired and he refused to provide proof of current insurance. 4. It was discovered that his insurance was canceled long before it expired. This was discovered at the hearing while the former insurance agent testified that the insurance was canceled September 2022, while he was working on our home. 5. We had to get another contractor to complete the job which they did in two weeks, but it took another 30 months to collect the lost funds through MHIC. There were many other issues, but these are more than enough to not hire this business.

The sliding was installed improperly, electrical panel installed improperly and of course they did not leave any permits behind
