In 1993, responding to the need for a dedicated regular Republican club in the 49th Assembly District in Brooklyn, New York, former Assemblyman Dr. Arnaldo A. Ferraro founded the Fiorello LaGuardia Regular Republican Organization.
The club was named in honor of Fiorello LaGuardia, one of New York City's most popular mayors. In 1985, Assemblyman Ferraro introduced a resolution in the New York State Assembly to commemorate the contributions of Mayor LaGuardia. Carrying on the memory and the name in the spirit as that resolution had intended, Dr. Ferraro chose to name the club after him.
Mayor LaGuardia, who was both a Republican and of Italian and Jewish descent, much like many of the residents of the 49th Assembly District, was selected as the club's namesake for his service to the people
