I found a listing that Jeff Miller, the owner of Direct Forklift Exchange, had listed on Facebook Marketplace for a Yale 5000 pound capacity forklift. After making arrangements for the purchase, Jeff called me and said that he had a better unit that he would prefer to sell me. He certified that it was a better unit, with less operating hours, and was in great condition. Before shipping and finalizing the sale, he said that he had his repairmen take a look at the engine and guarantee that it was in great working order. He shipped the unit from his location to my business's warehouse/storage space in North Austin, and upon delivery I wired him 5,995 dollars for the unit. I drove it around the block and gave it a quick test to make sure it was running smoothly, and everything seemed alright, so I signed off on the bill of lading and accepted the delivery to finalize the transaction. A couple of days later, before I had had a chance to operate the unit, I had to replace the propane tank, which was delivered empty, and a battery, which was also delivered nearly empty. That wasn't a big deal, since I accepted the unit as is. However, two days after it was delivered, the hydraulic fluid line ruptured, and I had to get find a repairman to come fix the awful leak. We notified Jeff of the problem, and that we expected him to cover the cost of the repair, since he certified that the unit was in great working order before it was shipped, and the fact I had not yet operated the unit before the problem arose. Since notifying him of the problem, he has not responded to a single text message, facebook message, or email, and has stuck me with a 757 dollar repair bill. Given that this problem with the unit arose before I ever used the unit, and after he guaranteed its good working condition, it is a cost that his company should cover if he stands behind his products and the service he provides. Since he has not, I assume that he was aware of the problem before shipment and knowingly sold us a faulty unit. Do not purchase a forklift from this company, unless you want to get scammed into buying a faulty unit and spend a lot of money on repairs.
