Since food donors often have far more food to donate than any single person or agency can accept at one time, the Maui Food Bank forms a vital link between food donors and over 100 local charities that provide emergency food assistance to the hungry throughout Maui County. These charitable programs, in turn, give the food to many types of needy people. Some are homeless and unemployed; many others are employed with jobs that don’t provide enough money to pay for both shelter and food. Some are elderly, whose medical expenses leave them unable to afford enough to eat. Almost half of the people we help are children.
