Gervais complaint
$14,000 contract for new high efficacy gas fired warm air system and to install new Master Bathroom; one contract for both. Contract was to keep existing heating operation until new installation was complete, but no the removed the original heating system on the first day. That was in September, they did not even get the new furnace fired up until Mid December, no heat for 3 month, Gervais did not even provide temporary heat, I had to buy three electric space heaters. I thought all would be over when the new furnace was fired up, no, that just was the beginning of my problems. With the new furnace working 24/7 even with the three electric heaters the temperature would not get over 65 degrees. My original furnace which was over 30 years old with NO problems had no difficulty providing 75 degrees. My calls, emails and complaints about freezing were totally cast away as unfounded, told me the problem was not enough insulation, or that they were not finished, it was simple balancing problem that was no problem to fix. Still did NOTHING about it, Jeff the Owner never oversaw the installation and appear once in December, took pictures, took a video, made a call and left. He never even looked at the furnace or ductwork, just took pictures of the inside of my house and the diffusers that they installed. As nothing was fixed, it was obvious I had to do something myself. I hired a HVAC engineer to review the heating installation, his report found so many problem with the installation, the locations of warm and cold supplies, the installation of the flexible duct, the lack of any metal duct work was blocking the air flow of warm air and return air; the furnace was starving for air and the warm air output temp at the diffusers we only 70-78 degrees when they should be over 110. Even communication this information (which I paid for) to Gervais did nothing to get the system working properly. Based upon the engineers report I asked the local gas and plumbing inspector to look over the installation as the HVAC report suggested there may be some code concerns. There were, although they were correctable the inspector was most upset that Gervais had fired up a GAS furnace before it had been inspected, that he had place me and my home at risk and that it was a serious code violation with the only exception being emergency heat over a holiday or weekend. It had been operating for more than a month. He also went to inspect the rough plumbing and told me he would not approve either installation. The gas inspector contacted Gervais, that certainly got his attention, Jeff the Owner was at my house the next day, it was the first time he even looked at the furnace, gas work and ductwork. I had had it! The potential for a gas explosion was unacceptable, I did not want Gervais on my property again and decided to terminate my contract and hired a new heating contractor and plumber to correct, replace, complete and make operational all of Gervais' work, total direct cost to me exceeded Gervais' original $ 14,000 contract. All that was salvable was the actual furnish itself and SOME of the plastic piping for the new bath which the new plumber give me credit for to finish the work. That's Gervais' work performance, what he did after that WAS FAR WORSE. He invoiced me for the FULL $14000 contract amount! THEN when I told him to contract my lawyer, he didn't and behind my back FILED A $ 14000 LIEN ON MY PROPERTY! MORE LEGAL COST FOR ME! NICE WAY TO TREAT A 73 YEAR OLD MAN that just wanted to be warm.
