Anthony Dolce
I originally asked for a quotation to have the company re-stucco my veranda from textured to smooth stucco, to apply lime plaster coats to the veranda, and to apply exterior veneer stone on other parts of the exterior. They gave me quotations for each part of the project separately. Given the name of the company, I was fairly sure they knew what they were doing with stucco, but I asked for some pictures of their work and references for plastering and applying stone veneer. I asked many times and never received references or photos. So I decided to go forward with them for the stucco portion and told them I would like to use them for the other portions, but would like to see some sample work. We agreed to revisit after the stucco work was completed. I signed a contract for the stucco portion and paid the deposit.
Because I have many vendors lined up for work that requires this re-stucco, I called Vicki several times leading up to the job that was supposed to start on a Thursday. Vicki never called back but each time I called her, she said Thursday was confirmed. Thursday came and the technician arrived in his truck that reeked of marijuana. He was really evasive of when he would start, but he dropped off some scaffolding and stucco mix. While he was here on Thursday he recommended a change in the plastering product to be used on the exterior veranda from lime plaster to USG plaster. I said I would consider it, research it, and again asked for some references. I asked him when the stucco part would start and he said it was starting now with prep work. Friday came and went with no contractors.
On Monday the contractor arrived and without talking to us just started to put the scaffolding and stucco back in his truck. I asked him what was happening. He said he did not know we were having the floors done in Travertine pavers and that he did not budget for the cost to protect them. I told him that I could understand his position and that we or he could apply plywood on the floor and we would cover the cost of the plywood and installation. At that point he said it was just better we parted ways. I told him we have a contract, we need this work as part of the overall project, and he could not answer why protecting the floors with plywood at our expense was not sufficient. He proceeded to load everything back into his truck which actually had a worse marijuana odor than last week.
At this point things became heated. I told him this was going to cause us some very big issues because we have tile installers already contracted to start the tile installation for next week. I again asked why plywood would not work at our expense and he said to take it up with Vicki. At that point I told him his entire company was very unprofessional as the work was confirmed to start last Thursday and everybody knew it wasn't going to start back then. I told him that I was fairly confident he knew what he we was doing to apply stucco, but that when he told us last week to apply USG Diamond to exterior spaces, I quickly lost confidence that he could even do the plaster work. He said that USG Diamond is used for interior and exterior and we got into a heated discussion about that (it is not, it is an interior product- see USG website).
