SCAM ARTISTS! RIP OFF! DON'T GO HERE!
My wife and I went in looking for a simple eye exam for contact lenses yesterday, 8/9/2022, we finally had vision insurance again, my wife even left work early because this was the only optometrist with appointment availability same day. Our vision insurance specified a $10 copay for the exam, and $25 copay for materials for lenses. The price they told me at the counter? $109!!! I asked why and was met with its for an eye scan and some other sort of recommendation for a type of lenses, and, quote: "its a medically necessary part of the exam." I've never, ever, had to pay extra for a contact lens exam with insurance, so I said so and asked if we could just do it without the extra and was told, quote: "no, they're required for a contact prescription because it's a medical device." Devestated because we only had $100 in the bank, my wife and I left without an exam, without lenses. We were so excited because we thought we would pay $70 and have some money left over for a celebration dinner.
So what did we do next? We called Walmart optical. What did Walmart tell us? That it would cost us $35 a piece total for a glasses AND contact prescription as well as lenses of our choice. Now, I ask you, why is something medically necessary at Ion Vision but not Walmart? Because it's not, of course, necessary. Rather it's a scam to fleece people out of their hard earned money using slick verbiage and a facade of expertise. I knew something I was being told didn't pass the sniff test, abd thank God I decided to call off the exam at in before I to was suckered in. In fact, the last time my wife got her eye exam at Mountain West Eye Care they tried to pull a similar scam, attempting to charge extra for a, quote: Contact lens fitting. Their crime was more egregious as they also tried to upsell her on daily contacts that, in total, would have cost us an extra $400 after insurance (and we had better insurance then than now.)
Point is, don't just trust something because a "expert" is telling you, and be careful of these high end "boutique" sort of optometrists. And again, DON'T USE ION VISION, unless you want to be ripped off!!!
