Dr. Suzan Merten earned both her Bachelor of Science degree and her MD at the Medical University of South Carolina. She went on to complete her residency at the Medical College of Virginia in internal medicine in 1991 and her fellowship in hematology and oncology in 1994. Dr. Merten is board certified in medical oncology. She is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In addition, Dr. Suzan Merten is a member of the professional advisory board for the Carilion Breast Center and participates in weekly tumor boards with surgeons and other specialists.
