Sharon is a New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She is certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). Sharon completed her Masters of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology at CUNY Lehman. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from CUNY Brooklyn. She is extensively trained in delivering SDI (Social Development Intervention), a collaborative multisensory model helping children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder to improve their overall communication skills through the development of social pragmatics language skills. Sharon has also received extensive training in use of the Story Grammar Marker to facilitate language and writing development, as well as the Orton Gillingham approach for reading instruction. She has worked with all ages including infants, toddlers, pre-school through middle school students, adults and geriatrics. Sharon has experience with the assessment of and intervention for speech-language delays and disorders, including expressive and receptive language, cognitive delays, reading comprehension, auditory processing, voice disorders (including hypernasality due to cleft palate), fluency disorders, writing difficulties, executive functioning, phonology and articulation, and pragmatic language use. Sharon has worked in adult home settings with adults and geriatrics with neuro-motor speech disorders secondary to traumatic brain injuries, strokes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinsonian Dementia. Sharon’s dynamic approach incorporates tools from her psychology background to develop a strong rapport with her clients and help them to identify any challenges that they may encounter throughout the therapeutic process. Therapy is geared towards individual learning styles, acknowledging the critical role of and collaboration with other related service providers and family members, and incorporates the strengths and interests of her clients.

Michelle has experience working with clients to address challenges related to autism spectrum disorders, apraxia, phonological disorders, and articulation and language delays. She has helped pre-school and school aged children improve their receptive/expressive language skills, reading comprehension, inferencing, literacy and organizational writing skills. Michelle currently works for Support by Design providing speech and language services in a Tribeca therapeutic gym. Michelle is skilled in implementing alternative/augmentative communication systems, such as dynamic display devices (i.e. Dynavox). Michelle is also PROMPT-trained, and has used this technique to remediate articulation disorders and delays in children. Michelle believes highly in collaborating with parents and other professionals to help children effectively generalize their skills between settings.

Marissa A. Barrera, MS, MPhil, TSHH, MSCS, CCC-SLP Ms. Barrera is the owner of New York Neurogenic Speech-Language Pathology, P.C. She is a licensed speech-language pathologist (NY/NJ) and Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist (MSCS) with extensive training in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with neurologic conditions. Ms. Barrera primarily works with individuals with Multiple Sclerosis, however, actively treats patients with Parkinson's Disease, Aphasia, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Dementia, Primary Progressive Aphasia, Alzheimer's Disease, Spinal Cord Injury, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Huntington's Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She also certified in the delivery of LSVT LOUD and VitalStim. Ms. Barrera has previously worked in a variety of settings including, acute care (hospital), outpatient rehabilitation, home care and private practice. She has several publications in peer reviewed journals in addition to giving invited lectures at local, state, national and international conferences (See Press). Ms. Barrera is an adjunct lecturer at CUNY, Lehman College and Hunter College's graduate programs for Speech-Pathology where she teaches Acquired Motor Speech & Swallowing Disorders and Adult Neurogenic Communication Disorders.
