we bought a 3 year old newly built house, where Irish construction built a back deck for the previous owners. the deck is extremely poorly constructed. i don't know where to start. The entire deck was put together with nails and not a single wood screw. The stairs steps were nailed to the runners, with large gaps, and have already buckled. I fell through the top step only a month after owning the new house. Given the house is only 3 years old, at most, the deck could only be 3 years old!!!! that should not have happened if it was properly constructed. the deck itself is not actually attached to the house...so it's virtually a floating deck that is about 4 feet off the ground. there is not enough support cross beams to support the deck, the way it's built, so it's only a matter of time before it collapses. the main deck board that is next to the door leading out to the deck has also separated from the deck as it was only nailed to the board next to it. it was nailed on an angle, with no support, so it completely buckled making it a huge safety issue. the railing along the edge of the deck, also all nailed together, is poorly put together, with gaps and places where you can see the nails came through the wood. overall, it's incredibly poor construction. I am writing this review in the hopes that Irish Construction will stand up, do the right thing, and fix the deck so that it's safe to use.
