Upon returning to the west of Ireland the knitting was refined to what we know it as today. So too, in the late 1990's Aranware Pottery came to be, when Ann Mullan-Karakatsanis, a native of Derry City, Northern Ireland moved to Boston and set up Kara Irish Pottery. As legend goes, in the early 1900's, the Aran sweater was developed by Irish immigrants living off the coast of Boston, MA. Upon returning to the west of Ireland the knitting was refined to what we know it as today. So too, in the late 1990's Aranware Pottery came to be, when Ann Mullan-Karakatsanis, a native of Derry City, Northern Ireland moved to Boston and set up Kara Irish Pottery. Ann worked on the design and development of ovenware, dinnerware & accessories with the traditional Irish motifs and contracted Ulster Ceramics in Derry, where she had previously worked as Marketing Manager, and Carrigaline Pottery in County Cork to create the products.
