Last Dec, I took my blower in for a gas leak and hard starting. After paying $68, it still leaked gas all over the garage floor. I took it back. After a month, they left a message on a phone I don't use. A month later, I called and asked about it and gave them my work phone number. He said he'd call right back. Nothing. A week later, I stopped by to talk to the owner. He said I was out the $68 and couldn't have my blower back. He was charging me rent to keep it there! Save your money and go to Rocklin or Auburn!

This is not a recommendation, but a complaint. I took my Echo blower into A&J. I told them that it was hard to start and wouldn't run much better than an idle. They did the repairs and when it was picked up it started up and ran a lot better. The bill stated that they drained and cleaned the fuel tank and that they also took apart the carburetor and cleaned it as well. They said that gas these days goes bad quickly and recommended using the cans of fuel that come pre-mixed and have a much longer shelf life. Getting it home it worked fine the first time. I went back and bought the recommended premixed fuel. The next time I went to start it I had a very hard time and once it did start it would barely go above an idle. I didn't trust A&J to check into it as I felt they had to have charged me for something that wasn't done. I gave it to my son-in-law who is a mechanic for the Roseville school district. While in the shop at the bus garage they also take care of all the yard maintenance equipment doing the small engine repairs themselves. He took the blower apart and noted that the fuel tank was cleaned; however the carburetor was very dirty and there was no way it was cleaned. He used carburetor cleaner on the carburetor and gave it a thorough cleaning. Once put back together it started right up. I went back to A&J and got into an argument with one of the guys about what was and wasn't done at A&J. A&J's stance was I should have brought it back to them to look into. My stance was that I was charged for work that wasn't done. He kept saying my son-in-law was a BUS mechanic so what would he know, ignoring the fact that I told him that he also has spent years working on small motors for every kind of yard equipment the school district uses. The discussion ended with the A&J emplyee saying sarcastically, "What do you want me to do...buy you a new blower?!". I said, "No, but refunding half my bill would be acceptable. He said no that they wouldn't do that. I thought this was a good little local business that I had been to a couple times. I suspect what they did to my unit was just dump the mixed fuel in the tank, clean it and put in the fresh premixed fuel. When it fired up they figured their work was done. In order to charge the higher amount they said they cleaned the carb. It ran good for a bit but stuff was knocked loose in the carb and plugged it up again. That is why I asked him to verify the bill and what they had done. I wanted to be sure that they said they cleaned the carb. I do not recommend this business and would avoid them. I don't think they are honest.
