I hired MDN for a contract over sixty thousand dollars. On the first portion, the foundation for an addition, they misread the simple plan and began excavating for a trenched foundation rather than the more expensive foundation for spread footings and block walls. I requested that they correct the work and construct the foundation according to plan. My discussions were with the son, Mark Lavis who had instructed me to speak to him about any matters that arose. He refused to correct the work. I offered to pay half of what he estimated cost of correction, even though the simple plans and contract were misunderstood by MDN. I had made no mistake I only wanted what I bargained for. Mark Lavis refused. When I returned home after our discussion, all of their equipment was gone. I practically begged Mark to continue work. I told him that it would be a huge problem for me if they abandoned my job. He refused to continue work. He refunded the small first payment but, the damage was done. He left my property with giant deep trenches all over the place. It took me more than six weeks to get a replacement contractor. I had to pay a large premium to get a replacement contractor. I had scheduled Mark Laavis of MDN way in advance so that I could complete my large addition in one building season.It put my large job way behind . Because of Mark's actions, I will not be able to finish my addition this year. I still do not know why Mark would do this to me. I am a GP contractor. His father did work for me thirty years ago. Everything went great. He even had little Mark, just a boy with him on the job. I know that if I had dealt with Mike Laviis the father, everything would have been fine. It was all a real shame and a significant hardship for my family. We planned on being in the new addition long before Christmas. That will not happen now due to a young man's ego.
