I cannot recommend Gardenripe because of the disrespectful and mean treatment my wife and I—as well as other volunteers—received from Bill Schiedler during our month-long stay. Bill was often quick to become impatient with volunteers. E.g., one day in response to a minor miscommunication, Bill aggressively raised his voice and tossed his hands in the air toward me. I attempted to calmly smooth out the miscommunication but he put a halt to any conversation. Our worst experience at Gardenripe was when Bill spontaneously decided to kick us out with no prior verbal warnings. We were shocked and politely asked why. The reasons Bill gave were insufficient to justify the alarming end of our stay. When we voiced how we felt this treatment was unfair, Bill exploded in anger at us with false accusations and personal attacks. We were the unfortunate recipients of unprocessed anger, which is highly unprofessional. Our fellow volunteers would affirm that my wife and I were diligent and respectful workers and did not deserve to be kicked out. I don’t want other WWOOFers to be mistreated like we were, so I hope my review helps WWOOFers consider finding a kinder host to work for.
