Actuation Test Equipment (ATECo) sells Index Test Boxes and index testing services for Kaplan and bulb-type hydroelectric turbines. Actuation Test Equipment Company (ATECo) is a start-up dedicated to optimization of Kaplan hydroelectric turbines. Optimizing, or "tuning-up" Kaplan turbines can increase their operating efficiency by up to 10% by an initial optimization at start-up. Subsequently, additional efficiency performance tests should be repeated 5-years thereafter in order to detect problems and maintain peak efficiency operation. The Index Test Box (ITB) was a new technology that was created within the Woodward Governor Company in 1985 as an accessory for Woodward's recently introduced digital electronic 3-D Cam. Success with prototype field-testing, subsequent commercial sale to DOE for further Government field-testing and award of U.S. Patent 4,794,544 to protect the new invention made it seem like a sur
