My Goodness How We Have Grown. In 1990, there were 13,081 people on our island. By the year 2000, the population grew just a touch over 55%, to 20,308. Yikes! Today, there are somewhere between 23 and 24,000 of us living here, depending on who’s counting. And as the Island has grown, so has Schmidt’s. In 2004 we moved into our current home at 750 Ericksen Avenue. This gave us 5,000 sq. ft. and 22 parking places. It’s easy to shop at Schmidt’s.
