The Decatur Economic Development Corporation was formed in 1993 following a referendum by the voters of Decatur which authorized the Corporation to receive funds from a Type A half-cent sales tax collected for the use of economic development for Decatur. Funds received by DEDC are used to promote the economic growth of Decatur and give the Corporation flexibility to assist companies with infrastructure, training and other items of importance. In 1997, a voter approved referendum also allows funds to be used for the capital and operation needs of the Decatur Civic Center and for infrastructure, building and equipment needs on public land. Decatur offers a pro-active and progressive city government with an extremely positive attitude concerning the future growth and expansion of the Decatur area. The City of Decatur, Wise County and the DEDC work closely together to provide business and industry attractive incentives to grow and expand if already in the city or for business and industry considering an expansion or relocation to a new community. The city of Decatur, Wise County, the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Main Street, existing business and industry and the DEDC continues to try to preserve the charm, character, uniqueness and appeal of Decatur while maintaining a progressive, urban atmosphere where any business or industry can thrive and grow.
