My husband and I had the awful task of taking our much-loved 11+ year old cat to the vet to receive news that she has cancer - almost certainly terminal. We had just moved to Seminole the day before from five hours away - where we had taken our cat TWICE to two different vets where she was TWICE misdiagnosed as having a simple respiratory infection and given antibiotics. Her health continued to decline. Dr. Muennink has such extensive experience with cats that as soon as he gently examined her abdomen and noted other obvious (to him) signs, he was able to tell us right then what was happening. He was straightforward in telling us her prognosis, yet he was understanding and compassionate. He took his time and explained our very limited options. I was in tears and told him I did NOT want her to suffer. I asked him point-blank what HE would do if she were HIS cat. He did not hesitate to tell me that she was not suffering pain right now and that he did NOT feel it was time to euthanize her yet. However, he was direct in telling me that she would not survive surgery at this stage - that neither surgery nor chemotherapy would be effective in treating her condition, but would more likely only serve to make what time she DID have left with us far more painful for everyone involved. While Dr Muennink did not sugar-coat our situation, he was very kind and gave very sound advice. He dealt with a worst case scenario that we presented him with in the most empathetic way possible.
