Prefabricated Metal Buildings and Componants In 1962, Edward R. May started installing industrial and commercial panels under the name Shoals Roofing Company. Within a short time the company started installing structural steel. In 1963, Edward May diversified his business and began to erect metal buildings as a sub-contractor. By 1964 Edward May was an established construction company contracting jobs that included site preparation, foundational work, concrete floors, and light metal fabrication. The company name was changed to Oakland Metal Buildings. During the next few years Oakland Metal Buildings continued to grow the business and recognized the need for vertical integration to competitively serve its customer base. Expansion of capacity included floor space, departmentalization, specialized processes, and automated equipment.
