The Salvage Barn, operated by the Friends of Historic Preservation (FHP), is a warehouse specializing in historic architectural building materials that are 50 years and older. The Salvage Barn, operated by the Friends of Historic Preservation (FHP), is a warehouse specializing in historic architectural building materials that are 50 years and older. All inventory items are donated, most of which are salvaged by our team of volunteers from homes slated for demolition in the Johnson County area. The Salvage Barn maintains a Tool Lending Library, accessible to FHP members, and offers workshops throughout the year that are open to the public. The Salvage Barn has been part of Iowa City's landfill diversion program for over 20 years. So far in 2013, it has diverted more than 60 tons of valuable and reusable material from the landfill.
