As the mother of an Asperger's son, I had a wonderful experience with the staff and the education that he received. After he was unsuccessful in 2 different public schools, my son was welcomed into a new learning environment. As a public school teacher I was thoroughly disgusted with Laf. Parish for not meeting nor even attempting to meet my son's needs. I left the public school system to dedicate myself to helping my son and any of the other children at Helping Hearts. Mrs. Sanchez and especially Bethany Sanchez began working with him when he was in third grade. He just graduated in May. They nurtured his educational needs, abilities, and they also helped him through some very emotional times, including the sudden death of his father. The teachers are all nurturing and understanding of each child's abilities, personalities, and educational needs. They go to many conferences throughout the year to learn new programs so that the school is always teaching with the latest most successful programs. Each child works at his/her own pace with individual attention. They bring the students on a wide variety of field trips. As a parent, you will always be an active part of of your child's education. To maintain a small school, there is a waiting list so contact the school as soon as possible. I believe that you will be very satisfied with your child's educational experience. My husband and I were not impressed with the public schools in Youngsville, Louisiana when we moved to the area and did not feel our son was getting the education he needed. We both decided that we wanted more and put our son into Helping Hearts Academy to see if it would make a difference. We were very impressed with the progress he made while attending this school even though it was only for a year because we got transferred to another state. However, the skills he gained allowed him to move forward with his education and he graduated in 2012. I highly recommend this program for anyone that has a child that is struggling in the public school system.
