Went in for a tooth extraction. Insurance covers 50% of simple extractions, but 0% of surgical extractions. I was told that it would require a surgical extraction, and that I would have to pre-pay. I paid, and they guy popped my tooth out in under a minute. It was above the gum-line, didn't require any surgery, and should have been classified as a simple extraction. I asked the assistant why I was billed for a surgical extraction (at 100% out of pocket) for an obvious simple extraction, and was told that because it didn't just fall out, it was surgical (i.e. the wiggling counts are surgery). I'm not a dental expert, so I went home and looked it up, and I was correct that I was fraudulently billed. I called the office, and asked them to correct the bill and refund the difference to my credit card, and was told that the dentist still considered it surgical, even if the insurance company, the dictionary, and common sense disagree with him. I spent over $400, and while I won't sue someone for overcharging me a few hundred dollars, I'm going to warn anyone and everyone what a POS this guy is, and to stay far FAR away.
