Cemetery located in Portage, IN Often referred to as "The Cemetery Beautiful" Calvary Cemetery was established during the summer of 1913. Calvary Cemetery is located in Portage Indiana and continues to provide death care services to the surrounding communities of Lake and Porter Counties. According to the January 2, 1914 edition of the "The Calumet" Calvary Cemetery was originally a 100 acre apple orchard with 700 fruit trees, historic farm and summer home owned by Frank Gavit, President of the Gary and Interurban Railway Company and was to be transformed into more than a cemetery. "It will be a beautiful park with lakes and woods, of which the entire Calumet district will feel proud."
