I purchased a 2010 VW Tiguan from Clif's Auto Sales in October 2019. The window sheet had no check marks or comments indicating any issues. The check engine light had been on during a test drive a week prior but Clif assured me it was fixed and the light was not on the day I purchased it. I purchased the vehicle and drove away. Nine miles down the road I stopped for gas. When I started the car, the check engine light came back on. Then the red oil light came on. I called Clif and let him know. He said to drive it a few days and if it's still doing it to bring it back. After a few days, both issues were still happening so I brought it back for him to fix. It took 2 weeks to fix. The vehicles he gave me as loaners all had problems (Chrysler T&C had squealing disc brake, Dodge Ram pickup had transmission fluid leak and was smoking from the back, the Ford F150 would not downshift from 5th to 4th, the Buick's wipers would not work, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee had an oil leak and cracked exhaust). I got my car back and began to drive home. It died halfway home, leaving me stranded in the country. I called Clif and he would not pay for a VW dealer to fix it -- only for him to fix it. I had it towed to his shop per his request. A week later, it was ready. The car ran fine but the red oil light was still on (one of the original problems). I took it to a VW dealer to diagnose. They said it was oil pump or bearings in engine. I wanted a refund OR to put my money toward a different car on Clif's lot but he did not want to do this. During all this, I had called their shop multiple times to check on my car because the secretary would always tell me "it's almost ready" or "it should be ready tomorrow" but they'd never call me so I had to call them. Finally Clif picked up the phone and SWORE at me to stop calling him. That he has a SHORT TEMPER and he's had it with me! He said I could bring him the car to fix and he'd give me whatever loaner he wanted and I was not to call him again. My car sat for 2+ weeks (I could see it) before it got into the shop. Another 2 weeks later, he said my car was fixed (again). I picked it up and four days later, the check engine light came back on. Using a code reader, it was the same codes as before plus new ones. It now sputtered and choked and barely ran. I could not trust driving it and had to get it to a dealer and traded it in on another vehicle. I paid $4800 for the car plus $210 for the tow and $135 for a dealer to diagnose what he did not fix. I asked for reimbursement of the tow bill and he would not reimburse me. I received $750 from the dealer in trade. During this time, an error on Clif's part in sending my title paperwork to the state resulted in my not having a title - so I could not get rid of the car either. I owned the car for 2 1/2 months but had it in my possession for no more than 10 days total. In the end, buying a car from Clif's Auto Sales cost me over $4,000 not to mention the running there and back, paying for insurance on a car I didn't have, extra gas for the guzzlers he gave me to use, and overall hassle and stress.
