To anyone looking for a place to live in NYC, do not rent properties from/with SDG Management Corp. They have not addressed any concerns with roommate harassment, cigarette smoke, and renters’ payment methods. Also, the corporation has cleverly groomed their tenants to “contact Ana Serrano” and confide in her, but to that, they are not promising to respond or resolve anything. Earlier today, I called the super tenant to see if he could help me get the current rent statement. He emailed “Katherine Perez” and CC’d me. I didn’t hear back, so I took a gamble at calling the office. To my surprise, somebody answered and it was Katherine. I mentioned that the super tenant already emailed her and she said, “Um? I don’t think so? But I can email you the renters breakdown and if you have any questions or concerns, you can email us back or get in touch with Ana Serrano.” To which I replied, “Ok, but the thing is, I’ve emailed Ana several times and she won’t respond.” Katherine repeated herself as if I were stupid and proceeded telling me to give her “10 minutes” to email me—She never did. Furthermore, the last of my emails to Ana, in September 2019, was about a dispute against one of the roommates. He was sketchy with shared expenses, for example, he wouldn’t show proof of electricity payment. Then he resorted to threatening me, so I called the police. Ever since I emailed Ana the police report, she has refused to follow up with me. I even re-sent the messages to be sure that she couldn’t gaslight me. —At the time, I was scared because I’ve never lived with roommates before, and I absolutely detest it now.— Ana didn’t do her job and she’s not the most professional. Worst of all, almost every weekend the apartment reeks of cigarette smoke. The previous super tenant knew it smelled bad and didn’t search for the source. Moreover, there are “no smoking” signs plastered everywhere. Imagine having to wear an anti-pollution mask to sleep at night. What’s more is coming home from a long day, opening the door, and the first inhale is cigarette smoke. It mainly happens on the weekends, but every now and then, the odor saturates the apartment on any given weekday. At one point, I was suggested to vacate because I came across as “complaining” when they wouldn’t help me. Voicemail after voicemail, they wouldn’t return my call. And right now, I still need a copy of the rent statement. I know I could leave or find somewhere else to go, but who‘s to dictate that I can afford to move out right now? And why should I leave when I’ve done nothing wrong? Altogether, I’ve been here for 9 months and these are the top instances in which I do not recommend leasing an apartment with SDG Management Corp. Especially the Washington Height’s locations.
