I hired Karapanjos Construction of Staten Island in the Spring of 2020. I later fell ill and told them to commence with the work we agreed upon. My daughter was to coordinate payments to them as the worked progressed. About 20 years ago I hired Karapanjos Construction when the father ran the company and who has since retired. I was very satisfied with the work. The two sons now have taken over the father's business. To my misfortune his sons did not possess the professionalism and the skills of their father trade. The work recently done by the sons is at best mediocre (of poor quality) and far from being precise for supposedly skilled masons. I was getting regular updates on the progression of the work from my daughter who unfortunately lacked the knowledge of what would be considered work that is properly executed and work that is not. Hopefully she has learned a valuable lesson from all of this at my expense. Karapanjos Construction told my daughter they were finished with the job and she paid them in full; BIG MISTAKE. It wasn't until the next day when I arrived at my home in dismay. Upon examination of the work I was TOTALLY DISSATISFIED and astounded at the subpar, poor, sloppy quality of work. I could not believe what I was seeing. It was my fault for not being present when the work was being done and at the same time placing too much faith in the company I hired. There are just TOO many problems with their work, including the WORK THAT WAS PAID FOR THAT THEY FORGOT TO DO to list and explain in detail. Though my letter of complaint filed on Aug. 5, 2020 with the Better Business Bureau is in detail. Complaint #14612218. I also filed or posted complaints with the following: 1. Department of State Division of Consumer Protection 2. New York City Department of Affairs 3. Google Reviews 4. Angie's List and Home advisor 5. Manta I reached out to one of the sons immediately. I told him that I was going to put a stop payment on the last check he was given for final payment. He threatened to smash the front steps of my house with a SLEDGEHAMMER if I did. I was appalled at his response. I never put a stop payment to his last payment thinking there would be a rectification on his part to the many issues I had with his work. After ignoring multiple phone calls of listening to my complaints he agreed to meet. When we met, I went over all my dissatisfactions in detail about the job and what needed to be corrected for me to be satisfied. He agreed to come back soon to make the necessary fixes, a job that should have been executed properly the first time. Well, almost four months have passed and he is no where to be found. I called many more times to see when he will make good on his word and work as promised. He has now BLOCKED my phone number to avoid contact. He exemplifies and embodies the true meaning of the phrasal idiom, A PIECE OF WORK. It is really very sad that the sons of a respectable businessman can ruin and diminish a previously established business to this level of incompetence. I spoke to the father on the phone a couple of times and he keeps saying, " My sons will come and fix it"; this just never happens. I don't know if the father is too old to comprehend what I am saying about his sons work because of his insufficiency with the english language or he is just playing dumb. I am still waiting and probably will keep for them to show responsibility to a good paying customer. This letter is my testimonial of their failings and serves as a constructive WARNING for those who are contemplating the services of Karapanjos Construction Company. Peter M
