I lived in Wichita for over 5 years and had some very good times. Yet, I was very happy when I moved away. I made some good friends, but even with my friends, I had to hide many of my beliefs. I was really stunned. How could such basically good and friendly people have such ideas. It was not possible to have a conversation about religion, race, abortion, unions, guns, homosexuality, welfare or even east side versus west side. Of course number one on the hate parade was politicians. I take that back, I did know one resident that you could discuss these issues with and not start a brawl or at the least a flaming argument. She really had given these matters some thought and did not just quote her parents or the bible. She thought for herself. We did not agree on most subjects, but she was very refreshing. Like an ice cold Tall Boy after cutting the grass. Talking to her helped me stay sane (thanks Pat). I am lucky because none of these issues were of any important to me when it came to who I voted for. Then and now, I always vote for the person I figure is going to be best for me financially, regardless of other issues. On most of these deadly issues, I really did not care, but say that anywhere, the Beacon Restaurant, a church sponsored turkey shoot or at the Oasis bar and it was interesting to say the least.
