Lifehouse is a unique model in that they are Christian based and thus receive no government support. All of their funding comes from private donations. Since opening in May of 2008, 31 healthy babies have been born to young women who were at high risk of medical complications, due to their age and life circumstances. Four of the mothers chose to place their babies for adoption so they could continue in school and grow and mature as young women, realizing that they were not yet ready to be a good parent. The young women who enter Lifehouse have rules to follow and must attend all of the classes offered as well as be in school full time or working full time. The individual, family and group counseling is mandatory as well as helping with the overall functions of the home such as cooking, laundry and cleaning. The home is supervised 24/7 by housemothers who work a 24 hr. shift. Once the baby is born the young woman has the option to return to Lifehouse and can remain in their program for up to three years or until she has reached her goals and can live on her own, successfully and independently.
