The building used to be nice, featuring controlled access, maintained grounds, and rules regarding parking and smoking enforced. That has gone out the window while I've lived in this building. The security doors have been removed, the grass is sickly, there's trash/cigarette butts and dog waste all over, folks smoking cigarettes and weed in their apartments, and there are cars up on cinderblocks in the parking lot. Rules regarding co-habitation, pet deposits/number of pets, and having renters insurance have been selectively enforced. Poor maintenance and neglect of vacant units in 2022 led to pipes freezing throughout the building in February, causing significant water damage to all 3 stories and destroying the belongings of several tenants. The building management placed the tenants into local hotels for up to 8 weeks before returning us to a building with open walls in the common areas, no laundry or vending, partially functioning lighting, nonfunctional security cameras, non-handicap accessible entrances, no postal service, and intermittent hot water. One of the tenants was bit by a brown recluse spider in their bed and caught MRSA from the bite, and other tenants had their belongs destroyed by mice which came from a hoarder's apartment. At one point the elevator was broken for 2 weeks, stranding 2 wheelchair bound people in their 2nd floor apartments. Repairs have progressed in fits and starts - the repair work looks nice and if it's taken care of it'll look good for several years, but the building should not have been inhabited until repairs were completed and the building was ready to host the residents. Building management has struggled to answer calls and return emails, often taking several weeks. From February 2022 to June 2022, 3 building managers have quit, and 2 maintenance staff were terminated without the residents being made aware of these changes, leaving folks unable to pay their rent or have issues with the building and their apartments being addressed. To top it off, the rents are being raised again in 2022 to $520 for a yearly lease. Rent was $425 in 2020 on a yearly lease. This easily outpaces "inflation" and local cost of living increases. In conclusion, the building will eventually look nice once the repairs are done if the building is looked after (still on going in July 2022) but it won't be worth your trouble if anything goes wrong while you live there - you will likely be left to fend for yourselves.
