Ricky Smith, owner of Carolina's Mid-Atlantic K9, began working dogs with an older cousin when he was 12 years old. He was fortunate to be his cousin's young apprentice until he went into the US Army. During his time in the US Army, Ricky was housed across the training field from the US Air Force Military K9 police which furthered his interest in the working dog breeds.
