In 1986, Dr. Kern started his practice working out of a modular building in the back of the property while completing renovations to what has now become Balsam Animal Hospital, PA. With the support of the community and his staff, Dr. Kern continues to provide quality health care in Haywood and Neighboring Counties. Dr. Kern attended Tulane University and transferred to University of Georgia, completing his studies in Veterinary Medicine. Graduating in 1980, he worked in New Orleans for several years before moving back to Western North Carolina where he spent part of his childhood. After working at the Emergency Hospital in the Asheville area, he decided it was time to open his own practice.
