Workforce Investment research and development "Advancing Our Economy Through Our People" The Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board envisions a thriving and inclusive regional economy, with increased economic opportunity and prosperity for our entire region. A city's economy is driven by the skills and qualifications of its people, and today's jobs demand complex problem solving skills, skills that many Philadelphians have not yet acquired. For Philadelphia to remain competitive in the new economy, it must develop the skills of its people. If it does, Philadelphia will be extremely well positioned to compete and prosper in the new economy, but if it does not, the city will face increasing challenges in retaining the businesses that are here now and attracting businesses in the future.
