This tow company literally came through an apartment complex in the middle of the night and towed my car because of expired tags, Its new, and runs great I just haven't been able to pay sales tax. Then charged $217 and $25 a day - on top of taking the tow personally. This is the equivalent of parking lot trolls and not doing enough legitimate business to stay afloat without shaking down lower-income families.

I was parked for approximately 7-10 minutes in a tow zone at 520 County Line Rd. Kansas City, KS 66103. Within those minutes and upon being informed that the area was a tow zone, I immediately went to relocate my car, which was already hooked up to the tow. The driver was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful, telling me that I could pay him $200. Cash on the spot or he was taking it to the lot, where it would be much more costly to retrieve my car. He added that if I "got an attitude", he wouldn't release it to me at all, putting conditions on my ability to have my car released from the tow truck. This behavior was highly unethical and what I'm led to believe, illegal. See below... "If you spot a tow truck driver taking your car, and the tow truck is still on private property, the driver must release your car to you unconditionally." "A tow truck operator who violates this law is subject to a civil misdemeanor, a fine of $2,500, and/or three months in jail." I am currently in contact with my attorney regarding this matter and have also contacted the local media about the way I was treated and the unethical and predatory nature of this transaction.
