Description Of Work: We hired Impala Builders to cover up an existing brick fireplace wall and build a new mantel and surround; a drawing was prepared and presented before the work started. He also re-routed the "on-off" switch for our gas fire place from the plate surrounding the firelace and mounted it underneath the new surround.Member Comments: The overall job went very smoothly. First the old mantel was removed, studs were placed on the existing brick, insulation was placed between the studs and the sheet rock/drywall was placed on to the studs. The drywall was taped and stackled. After the first coat of spackle was dry, the following day, the spackle was sanded to remove any rough sections and then another coat of spackle was applied. The surround and mantel were then built offsite and put together piece by piece at our home. The wood for the surround and mantel was primed with one coat of primer and the nail holes were filled in at the time of installation.
