In the year 1781 Capt. Thomas Amis (Revolutiuonary War Hero) was given a land grant in then North Carolina, now Rogersville, Tennessee. He built a saw mill, distillery, dam, stone fort and many other structures. Such famous people as Andrew Jackson, John Sevier, Bishop Francis Asbury etc...stayed at the Amis Compound before heading into the wilderness.
