Terrible experience. Hired Barret to cut and install two basement egress windows. I genuinely have nothing positive to say about the whole affair, it was almost surreal how disorganized it was. I can say that I'm glad it's over. My primary mistake was I signed a bare-bones estimate/agreement. As a layperson, I had no idea what to expect and was not informed of what exactly I could expect. This allowed Barret a lot of wiggle room and details were subject to interpretation. Most of the following mistakes were due this lack of written detail. Communication was mostly via text with the occasional phone call/message. I asked how long the job would take and when the project would begin. I was told, by Barret, that it would take 2 weeks and would begin 4 days later. The job began, unexpectedly, 2 days later and wasn't completed for 7 weeks. When pipes were broken and electrical line snapped, I was told that Barret was not responsible, although after much prodding Barret did complete the repairs. Workers continuously showed up when they weren't expected and would not show up when they were expected. I am not comfortable with complete stranger having free access to my home so I was in person the majority of the time. For the better part of 7 weeks, life had to be put on hold or rearranged in order to accommodate work that may or may not be done that day. Barret did not supervise or even inspect work done by contractors. It was necessary for me to point out mis-measurements, gaps, and work that was out of square and needed to be redone. Rather than bicker over details and subject myself untold weeks of waiting, in the end I cleaned up the mess left behind and finished the job myself. Some people have rightly given Barret great reviews, and I'm not you shouldn't to hire Barret. Rather, I'm just saying get as many details as possible.
