I hired Dehart Construction Services in October 2020 to buildout a new production facility for my booming business. He claimed to be an expert in these type of projects and had a very high opinion of himself. I was a little suspicious when he provided references because they were all from smaller projects and some from a long time ago. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and went ahead with the project especially because he was the only contractor I spoke to that guaranteed the project would be completed by April 2021. From the moment I signed the contract, the problems began. First, it took him over 3 months to submit plans to the city and lied to me repeatedly, telling me they were submitted in early December, then again in late December. He finally submitted plans in late January, and they were so basic and amateurish that we had to go through 8 rounds of corrections, taking 11 months simply to get permits approved. During that time, I kept asking him for a construction timeline and he made it clear he had no idea how to do one. I also repeatedly requested waivers from subcontractors and he refused to provide most of them. I hired multiple construction consultants since it was clear Dave DeHart was taking advantage of my limited knowledge of construction and permits, and they were all surprised by his complete incompetence and lack of professionalism. During the permitting process, I spoke to the city's inspectors and plan checkers and they were frustrated as much as I was by his lack of knowledge and incompetence. After 15 months since the beginning of the project with no end in sight and almost bankrupting my business, I finally had to pull out of the project and eat all the losses. People like Dave DeHart should not be in business. I hope this message reaches anyone that wants to avoid multiple headaches and lot of money. After my relationship with DeHart, I've heard of people having a similar experience, his scam consists of delaying the project so you have no choice but to cancel the project, paying him the full amount to avoid leans against the property, which explains why he refuses to provide waivers.
